NAVIGATION SYSTEM INSTALLATION

Installing a navigation system is a decision that can be easily made. Besides the cost of some of the more expensive models, there are few downsides to having a navigation system in a vehicle. Navigation systems provide information, just like a map, but allows the driver to view the information much more conveniently and safely.

Maps can be easily accessed on the internet and often with a smartphone, however, when driving, the use of cell phone is negligent and dangerous. A navigation or GPS system eliminates the risk of distracted driving that comes with using a cell phone and provides hands-free voice automated directions. Many systems save often-traveled routes and will offer directions to franchises that are close to work or home, allowing for convenience and ease in running errands and other tasks. GPS devices also eliminate the fear of getting completely lost or stranded in an unfamiliar area. The system will locate the vehicle through a satellite tracking signal and instruct the driver how to proceed to the desired location.

Navigation systems can be installed in factory and comes as a feature on most modern vehicle models. These devices are often integrated into the dash, giving a clean look and convenient placement. The screens are usually larger than aftermarket devices and are covered by the vehicle’s warranty.

Aftermarket navigation systems are great to install in older vehicles and mount onto the top of the dashboard or adhere to the windshield. The installation is quick and simple. Once the system is attached to the dash or windshield, the device plugs in to a cigarette lighter or other electrical port, and the installation is complete. The device is portable and can be easily used in multiple vehicles.

There are also systems that can be installed into the dash and give the appearance of factory-grade installation as well as the same advantages such as a larger screen. These models are more expensive than the on-dash mounted systems but have more options. The installation is much more complicated and requires a little experience with wiring. There is both a screen and antenna to be installed that must be properly wired and calibrated or there could be electrical issues with the vehicle in the future.
